Resource Recommendations to Help You Parent and Mentor Most Effectively

This Week's Recommendation:

"California’s New Law Lets Schools Keep Secrets from Parents"

Article by Abigail Shrier

Read It Here

“I have talked to hundreds of parents whose daughters suddenly identified as transgender. Many of their daughters were encouraged in this revelation by school counselors and teachers in school districts across America.” - Abigail Shrier

Why It Matters

While most of us live far from California, adults (especially parents) need to be aware of school policies that are likely to come east and are sometimes already here informally.  In addition, even if it’s not the law where we live, adults should know that there is a large amount of social media content targeted toward teens that seeks to separate them from their parents.

Shrier has been educated at Columbia, Oxford, and Yale, and she cannot be labeled a “right-wing Christian conservative.” She’s an Orthodox Jew who doesn’t oppose or question adults who culturally “transition” or have gender-reassignment surgery, and she’s not morally opposed to homosexual relationships.  Her concern is for kids and teens.

After I read Shrier’s eye-opening 2020 book Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters, I read numerous critical reviews to see how her opponents refuted what she said.  Although they hated her book and many sought to get her deplatformed, most of them didn’t attempt to refute the content of it.  Instead of advancing their argument, they mostly affirmed what she wrote but viewed those things as positive rather than negative.  In my eyes, this increased her credibility because she generally wasn’t accused of distorting their views and policies – she just disagreed with them.

How to Use it

Regardless of where you stand on this hot-button cultural issue, I highly encourage you to read Shrier’s informative and well-written article on this important topic that impacts young people in schools.

You can read the law for yourself here.

Consider finding out what your local school district’s policies are and stay aware of future decisions.

If you’re a parent or grandparent, are you fully aware of the content your preteens and teens are watching and exploring on YouTube, TikTok, etc.?  As I mentioned above and as Shrier explores in greater detail in Irreversible Damage, there is a large amount of content on this topic that intentionally seeks to separate your child from you.
