The Culture Translator
Worth Your Time!
Resource Recommendations to Help You Parent and Mentor Most Effectively
Why It Matters:
When adults are well-informed about current culture and the challenges youth face, deeper connections develop between them. That's why cultural awareness is one of our core values and why I recommend Axis' Culture Translator.
How to Use It
There are two ways to access the Culture Translator. You can sign up for their weekly email and have it conveniently delivered to your inbox, or you can read it on their website on demand.
The Culture Translator consistently provides questions you can ask a teen to "continue the conversation," which is one of my favorite features.
Don't assume a teen you know is unaware of something. Even if a teen is not exposed at home to some of the featured topics, it doesn't mean their peers with whom they spend significant amounts of time aren't talking about those topics. Similarly, even if a teen isn't watching or listening to something on their own phone, it doesn't mean their peers aren't showing them on their phones. Your conversations with teens can equip them to thoughtfully and biblically engage with their peers.
If you learn something important through the Culture Translator, share it with other parents and mentors who may want/need to know. It covers many things that most adults are probably unaware of.
Past editions are also available on the website, along with other resources. If you familiarize yourself now with those resources, you'll be more likely to remember they exist when a topic comes up about which you want more information.
Note: This is NOT necessarily an endorsement of everything Axis writes or every resource they put out. They provide useful tools, but your own discernment is always encouraged!
